Temple of Relics
What makes a place sacred?
Temple of Relics is a large-scale public installation exploring how sculpture and architecture can shape moments of gathering, reflection and belonging within the public realm.
Created for the London Festival of Architecture 2025, the work responds to the festival's theme, Voices, by transforming a civic space into an environment that encourages pause, conversation and shared experience. Monumental seating elements, sculptural columns and architectural fragments evoke the remnants of a lost sanctuary, reimagined for contemporary public life, inviting visitors not simply to observe, but to inhabit the space.
Occupying the space between sculpture, furniture and architecture, Temple of Relics continues Brewster's ongoing exploration of what she describes as intimate architectures—objects and spaces that mediate our relationship to ourselves, our environments and one another. Rather than prescribing a single use, the installation welcomes multiple forms of engagement, becoming a place for rest, play, contemplation and encounter.
Commissioned by Brookfield Properties for the London Festival of Architecture, Temple of Relics demonstrates Brewster's continuing interest in creating public works that foster connection through material, form and shared experience.
