Step Stools
Can function become a form of adornment?
Step Stools explores the relationship between adornment and function, translating the visual language first developed in Ebony Revolution into a series of sculptural furniture pieces.
Crafted from solid ebonised tulipwood, each stool is defined by a rhythmic sequence of carved steps that wrap around the form, recalling the faceted surfaces of the jewellery collection. Here, the metal accent found in Ebony Revolution is reinterpreted through colour: a bold painted aperture punctuates each stool, becoming both a visual focal point and a functional handle for moving the object.
Balancing utility with sculpture, Step Stools continues Brewster's ongoing exploration of how material, form and detail can elevate everyday objects into expressive works that exist between furniture and art.
